The Ultimate Goal
Ultimately the goal of this project is to build a portable and scalable autonomous rig capable of controlling 3 axes of rotation for the camera and the ability to control lateral camera movement on another three (or so) configurable axes.
This does not necessarily have to be contained in one device, as I beleive flexibility and scalability would be the key to a successful shoot on location. For example, a two axis tripod head may be sufficient for one shoot, but a dolly could be added to this for lateral movement if required.
Portability is another concern, as the unit may be required to be carried by foot some distances, up mountains or into dark sky (ie. remote) areas.
Basic Requirements
- Rigid construction. Camera weighs about 1kg, movement ("camera shake") will ruin the photography.
- Field programmable interface
- Very fine angular control; down to 0.01 degree increments
- Runs off 12V DC power supply or mains adaptor
There are more items that I will add as I remember them...
